The Norte was one of the great Spanish railway companies, which, over the years, acquired almost all broad-gauge lines in northern and eastern Spain. The main trunk routes were from Madrid to Barcelona and France, and Madrid to Irun and France, but owned dozens of lesser lines. Originally organised from Paris, with much French capital, and quoted in Paris. Nationalised into RENFE in 1941. Very decorative in strong colour, with design by Seronard and engraving by Rouget, which the Norte used for very many years. Border of railway, industrial and agricultural scenes.
