PARIS. Action de F500. brown, orange. #36000. No 414. Perhaps one of the best-known pieces in scripophily, with its very large vignettes of a camel caravan waiting for a train to pass, and a fine border with mosaics, lion, etc. The company was formed in 1896 to build lines from the Red Sea at Djibouti to Entotto, to Kaffa and the White Nile. The scheme soon collapsed in chaos, and investors received back only F10 of the F500 they paid per share. Text in Amharic and French. Designed by Louis-Charles Bombled, painter and designer, especially of military themes. Born at Chantilly (Oise), north of Paris, of Dutch parents, in 1862, and died at Pierrefonds (Oise) in 1927. He showed his work at the 1885 Salon des Artistes Français, where he obtained an honourable mention.
