Lotnummer: 357
PARIS. Part Bénéficiaire. green. No 588. Formed Paris, 1908, by the inventor and industrialist Lazare Weiller (telegraphy, steel-products, taximetres, etc), to purchase and exploit the patents owned by the Wright brothers. The company sold 5 airplanes to the French Army. However, the company never really got of the ground, due to lack of support by the Ministry of War, which preferred French manufacturers, which were making great progress at the time. In that same year, Weiller, conscious of the future development of aviation, had offered a prize of 100.000 gold francs as a reward for the first flight of one hour around a closed circuit. This attracted the Wright brothers to France, and they won the prize. Doubtless the extremely early aircraft shown on the cert. is a Wright design. As this company was the first to use the Wright Brother's invention - generally seen as the world's first airplane - this share is considered as the very first airplane certificate.
