ST. PETERSBURG. Official copy and translation. black. 2 pages handwritten, but very readible text in Russian with official translation in French. In it, Tsaar Paul I commissions his chancellor, Prince de Bezborodko, and his treasurer, Baron de Wasilieff, to accept the conditions of the Dutch bankers Hope &Co. regarding the issue of new loans in exchange for old loans. These conditions were in part 5% and in part 6,5% interest and commission. Signed in St. Petersburg by Knight Theodor de Golubizoff, state councillorn, and on direct order of the Tsaar. Hugely interesting 18th century financial document regarding the way Imperial Russia financed itself on the international markets (in practice: Amsterdam). Most unusual document.
