BRUXELLES. Action Privilégiée de F250. blue, green, black, red. #4000. No 2677. A Belgian share of a design which most collectors would see as typically Russian! It was in fact printed in St.Petersburg! Underprint of a large and complex Marinoni printing-press, and a vignette of Gutenberg, generally acknowledged as the inventor ofprinting. The company was formed to acquire from Henri Diez his printing business, situated at Molenbeek-St.Jean. The statuts on the reverse describe in great detail the wide range of printing equipment included in the deal. The new company was to do all printing, including typo- and chromotypography, lithography, engraving, heliogravure, phototyping and -gravure, all colour-printing, and book-binding. The company had contracts to publish directories and yearbooks in Paris, in England, and in German-speaking countries, also the tariffs for the Belgian railways, among much else. One of the brevets obtained by the company was for the Orloff system of electro-chromoheliographic printing in Belgium. This piece was printed by the state security printers in St.Petersburg, by the Orloff system. The similarities to some Russian bonds, printed at the same plant, are clear. For this newly established printer company, the high quality print of its share showed the sort of printing they were aiming for themselves (having obtained the Orloff patent for Belgium).
