Formed 1873 to build a line up the west bank of the Hudson to Albany. It took over the Ridgefield Park Ry., built 1866 from Jersey City to Ridgefield Park NJ, which ran west of the Palisades and along the Hackensack River. The JC&A reached South Haverstraw (now Congers) before the money ran out. Taken over by the new New York, West Side & Buffalo company, and trains were running through to Buffalo in 1864.
