BUENOS AYRES. Accion de 200 Pesos. black. No 16231. The Banco de Buenos Ayres was formed in 1822. Four years later, in 1826, it was reorganised under the name of the Banco Nacional de las ProvinciasUnidas de R¡o de la Plata. In 1854 it became an official state undertaking as the Banco y Casa de Monedadel Estado de Buenos Aires. The present name of the Banco de la Provincia de Buenos Aires dates from 1863. Large brown stain at lower right corner. The name of the ProvinciasUnidas was adopted during the struggle for independence from Spain, and continued to be used until about 1860, when the name of the Argentine Republic became official. This is by far the oldest bank certificate from Argentine (the second oldest we know of was issued 40 years later). Extremely rare.
