64 PYRENEES ATL. BAYONNE. Action de 1000 Livres. black. Just as the previous ships, the 'Constant' sailed from Bayonne, the Basque port city in southwestern France. Bayonne was, together with Saint-Malo in Brittany (northwestern France), the maine 'pirates nest'. The ship took one merchant ship from Liverpool. It had a crew of approx. 200 men and 24 cannons on board. It sank on 16 April 1757. We do not know how many survived and whether the ship's captain, Antoine Balanque was the last man to leave the ship. What we do know however, is that he surived it, as he was captain on 2 more corsairs and died six years later (1763).
