COAL SALES DOCUMENT SIGNED COMMODORE VANDERBILT

Losnummer: 1647
Coal sales receipt for $320.54. black on blue paper. Handwritten document through which Cornelius Vanderbilt requests payment for a ton of coal he sold to a railroad company. Vanderbilt personally signedthe paper, and the lot is accompanied with a second (small) piece of paper with his signature. Both signatures are untouched. Vanderbilt (1794-1877) built one of America's biggest fortunes ever. He did so in shipping first and in railroads later. He was the patriarch of the Vanderbilt family. Very little scripophily is seen signed for him and it always sells for a 5-digit figure. This document is a comparably cheap alternative to the autograph collector.
