BENA BENDI/BRUXELLES. Action de F250. green, pink. #4020. No 1733. Large format. Trimmed border due to coupon cutting. Formed 1901 by the Congo Government and 14 interested companies, to promote cultivation and trade, especially of plant products and ivory. The company held a large portion of the Kasai river basin, partly the property of the 14 companies, and partly from the State. A major product was rubber, where the company had a near-monopoly. The president was the famous Gent industrialist Jean de Hemptinne (facsimile signature). Most attractive share, with Jugendstil/art nouveau border rubber plants, Congo stars, vignettes of train and river-steamer. Extremely rare.
