The Erie was formed in 1832 to build a rail link from New York City to Lake Erie; the line opened in 1851. Later on the line was the scene of a legendary battle for control between the giants of the U.S. railroad world (Daniel Drew, Cornelius Vanderbilt, James Fisk, Jay Gould). Very little scripophily is known from this historic company.
