At this date the President of the company was Moses Montefiore, and the Board included two members of the Rothschild family, and William Gladstone, later a long-term prime minister. The company is now part of the Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Plc. The share is signed by Moses Montefiore (1784-1885). Montefiore was a leading and highly-respected member of London's Jewish community, with a very successful life, in business and on behalf of the Jewish people. He was a director of many prominent companies in various fields, often in association with his brother-in-law Nathan Mayer Rothschild.
