Founded 1865 and became a joint-stock company in 1867. Owned several mining concessions in Algeria, mostly for iron ore but also some coal. It grew to become the largest mining company in ALgeria, delivering ore of exceptional quality for processing in France. In 1878 the original Mokta El Hadid mine near Bône (now Annabe) was said to be capable of supporting 25% of Europe's steel production. Later it extended operations to Tunisia, Morocco, Niger, Côte-d'Ivoire and Madagascar, mining manganese, chromium and uranium as well. Taken over by the Société le Nickel in 1970 and renamed Imétal. An important company, a magnificent share and to the best ofour knowledge a unique find.
