In order to reduce rubber, ivory and labour prices and increase profits in the Kasa‹ region, King Leopold decided to establish the "Compagnie du Kasai" in 1901 withan initial capital of 1.050.000 belgian francs. Half of the capital was subscribed by the Congo Vrijstaat, the other half by the 14 private companies in Kasa‹ who were obliged to give up their trading rights and to bring in their installations. In 1908, when Congo was taken over by the Belgian state, trading freedom was restored and the company was privatised. The company also focussed on the mining industry and established the Minière du Kasa‹ and the Minière de l'Aruwimi-Ituri and expanded farbeyond the Kasa‹ region. In 1960 the company first choose the Belgian statute, brought its Congolese assets into separate companies, and finally changed its name into Agridus (1970) and was liquidated in 1976. Rare type.
