The bank was founded in 1909, and became the bank of issue of Congo currency, as well as the government's banker. Head Office was in Brussels, but it had offices in Antwerp, London, and throughout the Congo. Among the directors were Comte Jean de Hemptinne, Baron François Empain and Baron Henri Lambert.
