The concession was requested by the prince de Chimay, with two French noblemen, the duke of Noailles and the baron Sellière, a wellknown businessman. The company was then formed 1856, as the Compagnie du chemin de fer de Mariembourg à Chimay, to link Chimay with Mariembourg, on the CdF Entre Sambre et Meuse (16km), and provision ally, in the other direction, to the French frontier in the direction of Laon, but ended abruptly at Momignies (30km). The line had only slight industrial value, but the aim was to link up with the French CdF des Ardennes, to serve Laon and Soissons. In 1857 it was decided definitely to extend the line to the French border. The company name was shortened to the Cie du chemin de fer de Chimay, and the capital was increased. The share has edge-tears fixed with tape. Extremely rare.
