ILLINOIS. NEW YORK/CHICAGO. 8%Bond of $1000. orange, red, black&silver seal. No 1328. Folds. George M. Pullman (1831-1897) had the idea of building better sleeping accommodation on trains. The railroad companies were slow to accept his ideas, but by the mid-1860s public demand was enthusiastic. Pullman founded the Pullman Palace Car Co., which grew to be the greatest railroad-car-building company in the world. A number of plants were built around the northeast and Midwest. As well as sleeping-cars, dining-cars, chair-cars and vestibule-cars were introduced.
