Formed 1885 to give cheap loans to the Russian landed nobility on mortgages of their estates. Interesting to note that, in 1900, this bank granted credits of 660 million roubles, while the corresponding bank for the peasants granted only 70 million. With the acceleration of the transfer of land from the nobility to the farmers (perhaps better 'rural bourgeoisie’, not the average farmer), the issuance of new loans by the State Noble Land Bank slowed down. By 1914 the outstanding long-term loans amounted to 894 million roubles which was about the same amount of the money lent by the agrarian banks. After the 1917 Revolution, the State Noble Land Bank was liquidated. Text not only in Russian, also German, French and in some cases English on the back.
