Lotnumber: 624
LISBOA. 3% Obrigaçao F500. Serie 1. B/S Cat. 210 C. green, black. #100000. No 172954. Folds and pin-holes. This bond has a similar, but not identical design as the shares in the previous lots : all border vignettes are different. They show different types of locomotives and trains, the ports of Lisbon and Porto, railroad tunnel and threedifferent coat-of-arms (Portugal, Lisbon and Porto). Text in Portuguese & French. Also printed in Paris by Imprimerie Chaix. In its year of foundation, the company was allowed by the Portuguese Government to issue a loan of 50.000.000 Francs divided into 100.000 bonds. They were sold in 5 separateissues. We offer here the first issue, and the other 4 issues follow in the next lots. Note that all original bond numbers were cancelled and replaced by a new number. The red stamp and new coupon sheet including talon taped onto the bonds explain why. In 1894/5, a bond restructering took place with the 1860-issue being given the 'second rang' status as opposed to the 1886 and 1889 issues (see lots 630-636).
