Titulo de Subscriçao. Not in Boone/Shakespeare cat. black. This is the first railroad constructed in Portugal. The company was formed by the British businessman Hardy Hislop in 1853 and dissolved in 1857. Despite financial difficulties, it built a line between Lisbon and Carregado da linha do Norte. The bigger idea was to connect Lisbon via Santarém to the Spanish border (Badajoz), and this company set the first steps. The first part of the line, Lisbon to Carregado, opened in Oct. 1856. Became part of the Royal Co. of Portuguese Railways. A great piece of Portuguese railroad history and only this one piece is known to us.
