Receipt of £30 interest. black. Generally somewhat worn condition with cut borders, but the printed text is complete. Folds with small splits, repaired. Payment of 30 pounds by Her Majesty's Exchequer as three months interest. The loan was based on an "act for granting to their Majesties a subsidy of tonnage and poundage, and other sums of money payable upon merchandizes exported and imported". In common with all taxes granted, as soon as the necessary Bill had passed Parliament, the Exchequer would borrow money from the public on the security of the tax to be collected, to be repaid out of the proceeds as they came in. Signed by Hugh Boscawen (1625-1701), member of an ancient Cornish family and Member of Parliament for Cornwall between 1646 and 1701. Very early date.
