GIBRALTAR. 1 Share of $50. black. #1500. No 1853. A few pin-holes in the upper left corner. Formed to deliver gas to consumers in the (British) colony, for light and heat. Very fine lithographed vignette of the Rock, clearly showing the company gas-works. The gas was made from coal, imported by the Gibraltar Coal Company. The Coal Co. was connected with the Gas Co., at least with common directors. The company chairman was the Irishman Richard Holmes. This is officially the first Company of Gibraltar, established 1856, with company number 00001 and remained active until at least the 1930s.
