PARIS. Action de F100. blue, buff. #150000. No 177. L'Auto, founded in 1900, was a journal covering all sports, not only auto-sport. Piece of striking design, with an underprint of the journal, and an art déco border of many different sports. Facsimile signature of Henri Desgrange, well-known as first organiser of the Tour de France. He himself had been an important bicycle racer setting 12 track cycling records, including the hour record (in 1893). This sports paper, l'Auto, announced the first Tour de France race on January 19, 1903. Promotion of theTour de France proved a great success for the newspaper. By 1933, its circulation was 854,000 copies. Extremely rare.
