33 GIRONDE. BORDEAUX. Action de F500. brown, buff. #3000. Large format with border of vines & grapes, and vignettes of boat on river by château, coats-of-arms, etc. The company applied the 'méthode champenoise' to Bordeaux, to produce a sparkling wine. The business was originally known as R. Johnston &Cie, and renamed Les Bordeaux Champagnisés Johnston in 1926. Probably one of the many English names once prominent in the Bordeaux wine trade. Note that we offer here a lot of 50 identical pieces, all in excellent condition (central fold). These were recently discovered and previously unknown. Indeed, this 1919 (founder) issue should not be confused with the later (1921) issue which doubled the company capital and whose shares were already known.
