PARIS. Reçud'intérêt. black. The number of receipts for interest on state rentes must have been enormous, but very few have come to light. It may be that they were all stored in the Paris Hôtel de Ville, and destroyed in the fire of 1793. This example is printed on vellum and represents an amount of 900 Livres interest for the last 6 months of 1774. Note that this interest was paid by the treasurer of Monsieur le Duc d'Orléans, in those days Louis Philippe I. He was the most senior male at the French court after the immediate royal family and known to have greatly augmented the already huge wealth of the House of Orléans.
