Founded 1889 to cultivate and sell plants and flowers, but also to publish the magazine "la Flore" (the flora). The company is named after Louis Benoît Van Houtte (1810-1876). He was an important Belgian horticulturist, botanist and director of the National Botanic Garden of Belgium as well as mayor of Gentbrugge (1854-1876). He had a successful floristry in the center of Gentbrugge and published several magazines on the subject. By 1870 he was the best-known botanist of the country. His son continued his business, and turned it into this joint-stock company. First time seen by us.
