OOST-VLAANDEREN. GENTBRUGGE-LEZ-GAND. Action Privilégiée de F500. red, black. #2000. No 1179. Damaged borders (several edge-splits, a little staining). Central fold. Founded 1889 to cultivate and sell plants and flowers, but also to publish the magazine "la Flore" (the flora). The company is named after Louis Benoît Van Houtte (1810-1876). He was an important Belgian horticulturist, botanist and director of the National Botanic Garden of Belgium as well as mayor of Gentbrugge (1854-1876). He had a successful floristry in the center of Gentbrugge and published several magazines on the subject. By 1870 he was the best-known botanist of the country. His son continued his business, and turned it into this joint-stock company. First time seen by us.
