BERLIN. 5% Bond for £100, specimen. Serie B. Cat. KUL 132 RS. blue, yellow, black. Very large format (61x59cm), with two central folds (horizontal and vertical with one tiny hole). Full coupon sheet (1-40) included on the same piece of paper. One hole (3x0,5cm) in the central vignette, hence only half of the pagoda remains visible, otherwise in excellent condition. The suburb vignette shows in the central part the Chinese countryside with a pagoda, a few traditional buildings, water and mountains in the back. On the left we see view of the Forbidden City (at least, so we think), on the right side a maritime scene with 3 sailing ships. Two Chinese dragons surround the vignette. The colourful border includes four more dragon vignettes as well as a seabird and a peacock. Text in German and English. Unissued reserve stock of a £1 mln. loan to be redeemed 1906-1925 through 20 drawings. Marketed by Deutsch-Asiatische Bank. Printed in London by Waterlow. While no issued bonds have never been seen, only 2 such unissued bonds were discovered in the late 1990s and quickly included in major collections of Chinese scripophily. One of these two was sold in a German auction in 2020 for 18.000 EUR. This second piece is hence a unique opportunity for the advanced collector of Chinese scripophily.
