BRUXELLES. Action de Jouissance. red, buff. #2500. No 1128. Folds. Large, square format, with panorama of London from the river Thames. Also the royal arms of Britain, and a Union Jack, quite incorrectly drawn! The company was formed as a subsidiary of the S.A. des Panoramas, Brussels, owned by Charles Castellani ('the father of panoramas'). There were dozens of such subsidiaries, formed to present panoramas in different cities in Europe and U.S.A., of themes of events in the news, and of particular interest in that country. Those offered by the British company included the recent battles of Ulundi (Zulu War), Tel-el-Kebir (conquest of Egypt), and, less topically, Waterloo. The panorama was painted on a linen wall. Castellani was in charge of the artistic aspect, while a Brussels broker, Victor Jourdain, was the financial brain.
