5% External Loan of $1000, specimen. green, black. Vignette of 'Justice' with arms of U.K. and France. Loan raised in New York to finance World War I. Not a $ of the proceeds was to leave America, but used to stabilise the exchange rates and thus helping to maintain the volume of American exports. Facsimile signature of Sir John Bradbury, well-known as the signatory of the first Bank of England notes for £1 and 10 shillings - an emergency issue during World War I, and known as Bradburys.
