LUXEMBOURG. Action de F500. green, black. #30000. No 6946. Faint staining at the top and bottom and minor edge-splits. Very decorative piece, with classical border, coats of arms, mining-equipment, and underprint of the arms of the Grand Duchy. Text in French and German. This was the second note-issuing bank to be founded in Luxembourg. However, the government decreed that the bank's notes should no longer be accepted, and the bank went into liquidation in 1881. This caused grave difficulties to other enterprises linked with the Banque Nationale, such as the Banque Fehlen, the Bankverein in Luxemburg, the Union des deux Luxembourgs, the Usines de Differdange et Rumelange, and the Crédit FoncierLuxembourgeois. The government agreed, under pressure from the public, to repay the full value of the notes, and had to borrow 3 million francs to do this.
