Action d'un Denier. black. No 154. Central fold. Some spotting at the borders. Fine vignette of the Traisnel family arms, with three Bourbon fleur-de-lis. The Marquis' mines were at Aniche, near Douai (northern France). The concession dates from 1774 and this company was created in the year before (11/11/1773). At first, the mines were very difficult to work, with very thin and irregular seams of coal. The company later became the Cie des Minesd'Aniche, which became one of the most important coalmining companies of France. The shares are signed by Flemish names, as well as by the Marquis himself. This is nothing less than the oldest French mining share we know of. See also lot 423
