33 GIRONDE. BORDEAUX. Action de F5000. black. No 504. Central fold. Large format. Formed Paris, 1837, by a number of Parisian aristocrats to develop the poor and arid region of the Landes. With a system of irrigation, from the new Canal des Landes, they thought to make fertile the land of the Plain of Cazaux and develop agricultural production, giving important profits. The arrival of water did, at first, allow the cultivation of carrots and wheat, in place of millet, maize and rye. However, the poor land would not respond to fertiliser, and was never very productive, leading to the bankruptcy of the company in 1846. A very elegant certificate, appearing as a metal plaque, with Mercury and Vulcan, and various symbols of agriculture and industry. Extremely rare.
