KJÖBENHAVN. Actie 200 Rigsdaler Rigsm. grey, buff, black. No 198. A little staining. Folds with small edge-splits, mostly repaired. A 2nd page, with transfer notes until 1972, partly taped on the first page. Separate coupon sheet (years 1969-1981) evidencing the long life this share certificate has had - approx. 100 years. Very pretty piece, showing tens of animals (from lions and bears, from apes and kangaroos to birds, camels and zebras, and so on) in a wide landscape - their natural environment, rather than their actual life in the zoo. The Copenhagen Zoo was founded by ornithologist Niels Kjaerbolling in 1859 and is as such one of the first zoos in Europe. It is located in the old summer garden of Princess Vilhelmine. In 1872, the zoo became a joint stock company, as evidenced by the issue of this share. Each year, it attracts more than a million visitors. Since many years, only two pieces are known to us, hence this is both for its history, beauty and rarity a top piece in any zoo collection.
