Company name modified by pen to Pan American Airways Co. (originally: Pacific American Airways Co.). Pan Am was founded in 1927, and by 1930 it was the world's largest air transport company. Pan Am reached its peak after World War II, when the war had practically destroyed all air transport except Pan Am. However, competition grew fast, both among U.S. and foreign airlines, and Pan Am's financial position deteriorated steadily over the years. The airline finally collapsed in 1991.
