KENTUCKY. NEWPORT. Share of $1000. black. No 36. Folds. Tiny edge-tear, repaired. Thin paper with 4 allegorical vignettes. High denomination share ($1000). Founded 1831 by General James Taylor. The factory, located along the Ohio River between Eastern Row and Taylor Creek, employed 75 workmen and allowed 254 local seamstresses to supplement their families' income through the "putting-out" system by which they prepared fabric to be woven by carding or spinning fibers at home. The company owned a cotton factory, a woolen factory, fifty power looms for the manufacture of Kentucky jeans, lindseys and cotton plains, etc.
