VIRGINIA. RICHMOND. Shares. black. No 064. Folds and one repaired tear. Some faint staining. Bank founded 1832 in Richmond. Branches were opened in Petersburg, Fredericksburg, Lynchburg, Norfolk, Winchester, Danville, Farmville, Wytheville, and Charlottesville. The sales of land and slaves in Mississippi and Louisiana were the primary accounts supervised by the bank. Active until at least 1853. Issued to Sally Hunter (1822-1874) who recorded personal accounts, farm expenses and income, and the hire of African American slaves, today kept in the Virginia Museum of History & Culture.
