VALPARAISO. Bono 500 Pesos, unissued. blue. Folds with some splits. A decorative bond from Chile's principal port, showing the arms of the city, a ship, the Discovery (see below), and a wide view of the city and port. Discovered in 1536 by the Spanish captain Don Juan de Saavedra, who arrived by land trying to locate one of the ships that was sent by Diego de Almagro in his conquest expedition. He finds the ship called "Santiaguillo", that was waiting in the small Quintil Bay, and decides to name the whole place "Valparaiso" in honor to Valparaiso (Paradise Valley) in Cuenca - Spain.
