Formed 1912, on the model of the German Raiffeisenbank. Nationalised 1918. A London subsidiary, under the same name, opened in 1919, and was for decades the London bank of the Soviet Government. Its main function was trade finance, but it was instrumental in gaining western finance for development projects in the Soviet Union. After WWII it opened branches in Shanghai, Beirut and Singapore. Very striking and attractive share, with a fine flower border, designed by Ivan Bilibin (1876-1942), a well-known painter and graphic artist.
