86 VIENNE. Répartition de £3000. black. No 1508. There is a former toll-bridge in Lyon of that name but built in 1846. We suppose this may be a predecessor of that bridge, or maybe the 18th-century one was never built. St. Clair is the name of a part of Lyon, on the right bank of the Rhône, between thecenter and the commune of Caluire. By the middle of the 18th century, the center of Lyon was becoming very crowded, and a new district, St. Clair, was built, partly by filling in a dead branch of the Rhône. It seems likely that this bridge was built to cross the river at this point. It appears that shares, of 100 livres each, were sold in blocks of 30. This certificate (no.1508) is for 6 out of a block of 30, shares. It shows the means of payment, listing the coins offered.
