DOUAI. Call receipt of 625 Livres en assignat. black on green paper. No 39. Folds. This payment receipt acknowledges that the shareholder has paid 625 Livres as part of a further payment for the shares he owns in this company. The Marquis de Traisnel mines were at Aniche, near Douai (northern France). The concession dates from 1774. At first, the mines were very difficult to work, with very thin and irregular seams of coal. The company later became the Cie des Mines d'Aniche, which became one of the most important coal mining companies of France. Note that this certificate was issued after the French Revolution and so "Le Marquis" was pen-struck.
