It was here that, amongst other varieties, one of the most precious types of marbles were exploited: marmor numidicum or giallo antico (yellow marble). The town, completely abandoned in the 10th century, was excavated inthe late 19th century. This company was founded in 1887 to restart the exploitation of the quarries.
