PARIS. Action de F500. blue, green. #44000. No 20824. Two heavy folds, one with large repaired tear. Upper right corner taped back onto the cert. Also several edge-splits. Superb design by Leclerc, in a lovely flowery and Islamic border. Views of Syrian cities, with many beautiful mosques and minarets; we see Damascus with the famous Umayyad mosque, Aleppo with its citadel, Lattaquia on the Mediterranean, Hama and Homs - all the main commercial centres of the country. Syria was a part of the Ottoman empire until the end of World War I, when the League of Nations gave France a mandate over it. Léon Leclerc was a very talented landscape artist from Honfleur, Normandy. He showed his work at the Salon from 1890 onwards. Arguably the most beautiful share of the Middle East. Large format share, part of the 22 million francs company capital in 1925 (not to be confused with the common post-WWII issue by this company of much smaller format). Very moderate start price to take into account the condition issues (in EF condition, such a share was last sold by us in 2016 for 500 EUR).
