LONDON. Shares of 10 Shillings. black on blue paper. No 1750. Lower half of the left border cut. An important company, est. 1887, exploiting for instance the Martha Mine, one of the most important gold and silver mines in the world between roughly 1890 and 1950. There were 7 shafts, the deepest being 600 meters from the surface. Also a network of 175 km of tunnels and up to 1500 people were employed in the mine (1909). By 1952, when the Martha Mine closed, it had produced 5.6 million ounces of gold and 38.4 million ounces of silver from 11.932.000 tons of ore.
