13 BOUCHES-DU-RHONE. MARSEILLE. Action de F100. black. #5000. No 2233. Very attractive piece. Shows the ports of Marseille and Tunis, with typical scenery of Provence and Tunisia. Also the arms of the two cities, and an anchor. The maritime trade of Marseille with Tunisia dates from before the Romans, and is still very important today. This company was founded in 1896 to operate a cargo-passenger line to Tunisia, with sheep as the most common return freight. It owned five ships, all named after Tunisian cities. Yet, the company could not withstand the competition of the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique and was sold off in 1907.
