CONSTANTINE. Titre de Sociétaire. green, black. No 51. Folds. Formed Constantine in 1886, but horse-racing had started in the 1850s, organised by the French army. The officers in the company were French army officers. The racecourse was (and still is) at Sidi-Mabrouk, in the low part of the city. The more prominent Algerians of the city took part, and some races were entirely for the Algerian population. Horse-racing continues at Constantine today, under the control of an Algerian company. Share shows the arms of Constantine, and two racehorses. Not seenbefore by us.
