Shares. black. No 7737. An unusual early issue by this bank. The later type, from the 1830s, with the portraits of 6 presidents, appears quite often in auctions, but this earlier type, is much less often seen. Although not signed by the famous Nicholas Biddle, he was president of the Bank at this date. He was a competent banker, who developed high-quality national and international banking services for his clients in the big cities of the east. The bank was partly owned by the U.S. government, but people blamed it for every downturn in the economy. It lost its federal charter in 1836, and went bankrupt in 1841. Vignette of sailing-clipper, eagle and lady with a spear.
