SEATTLE. WASHINGTON. Shares of 5% Preferred Stock. purple, green. No 1243. The Alaska Central Railway figured prominently in the history of Alaska. This early Alaskan railroad was incorporated in 1902 to provide a route across the tundra to connect Seward, Alaska to the Yukon River and the Klondike, Fairbanks, and Nome goldfields. The railroad served as a major freight and passenger train for the Alaska "Gold Rush" until it went into receivership during the financial "Panic of 1907" and was reorganized as the Alaska Northern Railway Co. The railroad was eventually purchased by the U.S. Government and became part of today's famous and scenic Alaska Railroad. Stocks of Alaskan "Gold Rush" railroads are extremely rare and this one can be considered an important piece of this history. Rarity 7.
