An interesting collection of Panama Canal scripophily. The lot includes the founder share of the Cie. Universelle du Canal Interocéanique de Panama (1880), a nominative share certificate (1883), a provisional share (1883) as well as the well-known and decorative small format blue share. A second sample has the famous red stamp at the bottom indicating it was one of the original 10,000 shares issued to the founders (as opposed to the 590,000 other ones). In terms of bonds, there are 8 types (1883 red, 1884 green, 1884 black, 1886 black, 1886 brown, 1887 brown, 1888 black, the latter type once with and once without coupons). Furthermore, there are 2 nominative subscription certificates for bond issues, dated 1915 and 1838. Also a provisional bond from 1888. Unusually, this collection also includes 9 different bank receipts reflecting investment in Panama Canal paper. The collection is further completed with a 1868 share in the Panama Rail Road Co. and 2 different Panama-Canal sociétés d'études. Finally, there are several letters, mostly written by Crédit Lyonnais.
