DELAWARE. 8% S.F. Convertible Gold Bond $100, specimen. Serie C. brown, black. An important piece of the history of the Mexican oil industry. Although modest attempts were made in the late 19th century to extract oil in Mexico, they were unsuccessful. It took two pioneers, the American Edward L. Doheny (with this company, formed 1907) and the Briton Weetman D. Pearson (the 'El Aguila' company) to establish a serious oil industry. Both discovered and extracted large quantities of oil, mostly on the Mexican Gulf Coast. This company was, in fact, a holding company for various subsidiaries, working in different areas. Both the large companies, along with their subsidiaries and many other foreign-owned oil companies, were nationalised in 1936. Pretty vignette of oilfield. Printed by American Banknote Co.
