6% S.F. Gold Bond of $500, specimen. blue, black. Heavy folds with top part (above the title) taped back on the bond. Also some edge-splits. Haiti was under US control at this time. The loan repaid the balance of two loans raised (unjustly, in the view of many) in 1830 by France, after the independenceof Haiti, to compensate French slave-owners for the loss of their slaves, and the right to employ them. It also paid off the international floating debt of Haiti, and funded public works. The loan was fully repaid in 1947. Arms of Haiti, supported by 2 classical ladies for 'Industry' and 'Agriculture'. This is the second loan of a series of loans through which in total $40 million was to be raised. This 1923 loan was for $2,660,000.
